Are you someone who likes to watch television before you go to sleep? If so, this could prevent you from getting the restful and rejuvenating sleep you truly need. This doesn’t mean you need to switch off the TV altogether, but you may need to change the channel.

Below, we’ll take a look at the sort of films you shouldn’t watch before you go to bed:

You shouldn’t watch true crime or horror films before bed

You may not be surprised to discover that watching horror films before you go to sleep is not a good idea. In a recent study, Betway used a sleep quality tracking app to find out about the best and worst activities to enjoy before bed. Those who watched horror movies, they averaged a sleep score of only 65%, which is obviously very low.

True crime films and TV shows did not perform much better either, with an average sleep score of 68%. Not only do these films and movies tend to scare people, but they show shocking events, which can play on your mind and make it difficult for you to fall asleep.

Avoid films that are dramatic or evoke strong emotions

It’s best to watch something light-hearted before you go to bed. If you watch a film that has a dramatic plot or is full of suspense, it’s going to awaken your brain and give you a lot to think about. This is the last thing you need before you try to sleep.

So, not only should you stay away from crime and horror films but we also recommend that you stay away from any thrillers, action films, or movies that have a lot of violence. These sorts of movies are better reserved for when you’re feeling alert and can focus your full attention on everything that’s happening on the screen.

So, what films should you watch before bed?

Luckily for us, online casino Betway has also unearthed the best films to watch before you go to bed, with comedy coming out on top. Here is an extract from their research:

“Watching a funny film before bed ranks in third place as the best activity for good sleep, with an overall score of 8.74. Respondents who watched a comedy spent just 14 minutes awake per night (equal to doing a facemask), and their sleep quality was rated at 87%. The average amount of time spent sleeping after watching a comedy was eight hours and 11 minutes.”

Watching TV before bed isn’t always bad, it depends on what genre you watch!

Even if you love horror films or you cannot get enough of true crime documentaries, you should not be watching these types of shows before you go to sleep.

Instead, if you want to turn the television on, it makes sense to watch something light-hearted that will make you laugh. Comedy is the best choice here. When you laugh, you’ll relax your mind and body, and this will help you to drift off to sleep.
