Want to know how much Metro Boomin sold his catalog for?

The rapper, born Leland Tyler Wayne, recently parted ways with a section of his music index. Reportedly, Boomin shopped it to Shamrock Capital for close to $70 million.

Last month, on February 2, 2023, Shamrock Capital made the announcement that it had raised $600 million in a new fund called the Shamrock Capital Content Fund III. The fund was established with the intention of purchasing the rights to various forms of media, including cinema, television, music, video games, and sports.

Since its establishment in 1978 as Roy E. Disney’s family office, Shamrock has grown to become an influential and aggressive buyer in the market for investments in music catalogs.

The most noteworthy investment that the company has made to date is the acquisition, in the year 2020, of the Big Machine catalog, which belonged to Taylor Swift and was owned by Scooter Braun, and was retained by Ithaca Holdings.

The recent sales of other Hip-Hop artists, such as Juice WRLD to Opus Music Group for nine figures, Dr. Dre to Shamrock and UMG for an estimated over $200 million, and Future’s publishing catalog to Influence Media Partners for between $65-75 million, demonstrate that the genre is attracting new investors, according to Billboard.

Metro Boomin is now the latest artist to have joined this trend and sold a part of his music catalog. Although the public could not identify which of his works were included in the transaction yet.
