You wouldn’t guess what age J Cole started smoking cigarettes…
Although the rapper doesn’t often meet with the press, he granted Warriors general manager Bob Myers an exclusive interview this week.
On the most recent episode of the Lead By Example podcast, Cole sat down with Myers and discussed his upbringing, his exposure to cigarettes, parenting, and his gigs in both music and basketball.
The North Carolina native admitted to Myers that his teen years were characterized by a dearth of discipline when it came to his basketball career.
Although he was aware of his extraordinary gifts, he clarified that he didn’t always reach his maximum potential.
“I loved basketball so much that my delusion was high. So to get cut [from the high school team] was a gut punch,” the lyricist explained.
You Wouldn’t Guess What Age J Cole Started Smoking Cigarettes…
Cole acknowledged to Bob Myers that he started smoking cigarettes as a kid, despite being one of the few bar spitters who doesn’t frequently drink or smoke. According to the 38-year-old, he began hitting cigarettes at the tender age of six.
The “Work Out” hitmaker told Myers that although his mother wasn’t entirely conscious of what he was doing at the time, she had allowed him to roam the streets like she had when she was small.
The well-known Hip-Hopper revealed to Myers that he used to hang out with his older brother’s comrades in an effort to blend in.
“To them, it’s funny – they’re ten themselves – so it’s funny for themselves. Nobody’s really worried about me. They’re ten and smoking cigarettes. This is going on for two to three weeks. One day, I’m down the street at a house where it was happening at, and my brother comes up and I asked one of our homeboys in the neighborhood, ‘You got any cigarettes?’” Cole recollected.
