Doja Cat quits music? The megastar recently took to Twitter and announced that she’s bowing out of the rap industry and even ditching her pop sound… among others things.
Last week, when seemingly speaking on her forthcoming album, allegedly titled Hellmouth, Doja randomly tweeted, “no more pop.”
Known for her hip-hoppy approach to pop, of course, fans weren’t feeling Doja’s remark and didn’t hesitate to make it known.
In response to a troll who attempted to strip Doja of her title as a rapper, a user added, “i hope these comments are not the only thing that pushed you to go full rap…if doing pop and rap is what you like you shouldn’t stop simply because of them.”
However, the 27-year-old denied those claims, stating that the genre is no longer “exciting.”
Doja Cat Quits Music? The Rapper Has the Fans Wondering
She then went on to address the previous criticism of those who trash-talked her flow skills, expressing that she was growing tired of the backlash.
Doja continued, “i also agree with everyone who said the majority of my rap verses are mid and corny. I know they are. I wasn’t trying to prove anything I just enjoy making music but I’m getting tired of hearing yall say that i can’t so I will.”
The “Get into It” rhymer is known for her dark humor and sarcasm, so many were on the fence about whether to take her seriously or not. While she later joked that the project would be a mixture of rock and spoken word and renamed Moist Holes, she soon reneged on those statements and claimed it would straddle the lines of Bohemian and/or country music.
Our beloved Doja didn’t stop there with her antics, though, and decided to upset the fans… once more, announcing her retirement from the scene. “I quit music,” she said… then took it back and said it again.
Subsequent to that, she deemed Hellmouth a pop album… for the umpteenth time. Could Doja be confusing listeners just to build anticipation?
Eh, most would definitely assume. Either way, you can’t help but love DC.
She’s found a great deal of success in her own lane, with hits like “Woman” and “Say So” making it to the top of the charts and earning her numerous accolades and awards.
The Grammy winner is already teasing possible songs and sounds for her next musical contribution. It remains unknown if Doja will collaborate with other artists on Hellmouth.
Nonetheless, we can certainly expect a banger.
