Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna “Gigi” Bryant, tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California, in January 2020. Along with them, seven other passengers and the pilot also lost their lives in the crash.Â
Kobe wore the Lakers jersey numbers 8 and 24, while Gianna wore the number 2 for her basketball games. This significance is reflected in the chosen date of the statue unveiling, 2/8/24.
The announcement of the Kobe Bryant Statue at Crypto.com Arena comes a day after what would have been Kobe’s 45th birthday. Vanessa honored her late husband on Instagram by sharing a collection of throwback pictures.Â
These images include moments from their time at the Oscars following Kobe’s historic win in 2018, snapshots from their date nights, and appearances on the red carpet.Â
Among these, some of the most heartfelt photos capture Vanessa affectionately kissing her husband. The outpouring of birthday love for Kobe is evident in the comments, as Vanessa’s well-known friends leave touching messages on the post.
