NYC-native Dame Dash rose to fame following the launch of the Roc-A-Fella music label and various other creative business ventures. However, following his peak in the music industry, his career has been marred by scandal.

Today, Dame maintains his relevance through social media, which leaves fans wanting to know what’s next from the music mogul. America Nu is Dame Dash’s new network that’s “committed to evolving the culture, self-awareness, healthy living, independence, and learning from our experiences.” But how did Dame get here?

The Rise of Dame Dash: How Did Dame Dash Get Famous?

Dame Dash, born Damon Anthony Dash, hails from Harlem where he faced many adversities during his adolescence. Dame’s father was incarcerated for most of his childhood, and his mother died from an asthma attack when he was 15.

Sometime in their teenage years, he and Shawn Carter (later known as Jay-Z) became friends over a shared love for Hip-Hop music. By 1995, the duo co-founded the Roc-A-Fella record label alongside business partner and friend Kareem Burke. While the label faced hardships getting off the ground in its early years, Jay-Z’s Reasonable Doubt led the group to fame and notability.

In 1999, Dame and Jay-Z continued their mutual success by co-founding the clothing line Rocawear, which was propelled as one of the premier urban fashion brands of the early 2000s. Dame Dash also expanded his success outside of music and fashion by producing movies like Paid in Full and documentaries like How Hip-Hop Changed The World.

The Fall of Dame Dash: Personal and Legal Troubles

Dame has accomplished a ton in his time as a music mogul and entrepreneur, although his career has also been riddled with troubles in and out of court.

While Dame has denied all accusations, he’s faced issues in court under pretenses of domestic violence and sexual assault. The music executive was never found guilty and in 2023, Dame was cleared of any charges in a case against a photographer.

After losing the case, the same photographer opened another case against Dame citing that the 2023 jury didn’t properly acknowledge the damages she suffered. The photographer is suing him for $400,000 over pictures that she claims she was never paid for.

In and out of the courtroom, Dame has had personal conflicts with artists and his colleagues. He’s had disputes over Roc-A-Fella ownership and financial responsibilities. The music mogul has also been involved in legal disputes regarding Rocawear’s ownership, licensing, and financial misuse within the company.

If legal trouble were not enough, Dame has also run into beef with artists and other industry figures. The friendship between him and Jay-Z has been strained over multiple public disputes. Kanye West, who initially picked Jay-Z when Roc-a-Fella first broke up has had business disagreements and issues with insults from Dame. Meanwhile, Dame and 50 Cent hold a lot of personal and competitive animosity.

‘America Nu’: The New Dame Dash Network

Although Dame has run into a good amount of trouble in the past, his entrepreneurial spirit never died. It’s unknown when the company was founded exactly, but America Nu is his latest enterprise.

America Nu is a media network producing movies, documentaries, podcasts, and music videos. According to their YouTube and Instagram, America Nu began officially publishing media in August 2023. The page now has over 60 videos, the majority being teasers and coverage of events.

While the YouTube channel and website don’t offer much content, America Nu’s appeal is that there will likely be content coming on their apps for mobile and streaming devices. The service offers free streaming of all its movies, television series, and documentaries. There’s even a kids section with animated shorts, music videos by his kids, as well as a science show featuring his fiancée and son.

It seems that the future of Dame Dash’s new network America Nu is bright. Dame’s ongoing love for business has kept him in the spotlight and has even allowed him to create avenues for other artists. We have seen him rise and fall, but we may be witnessing another rise of Dame Dash.
