Ms. Lauryn Hill has created a horrible habit. While she has blamed the media for creating this narrative about her, the fans have long discussed her lateness and the gamble that comes with buying Lauryn Hill concert tickets.  The history of Lauryn Hill lateness and canceled tours is well documented! Social media certainly has all the receipts.

As recently as 2023 when Ms. Lauryn Hill & The Fugees first kicked off their reunion tour, Ms. Hill was late for the Los Angeles show, which ended up with her sharing some choice words on stage for those who complained.

“Y’all lucky I make it on this blood ras stage every night,” she continued, “I don’t do it because they let me do it. I do it because I stand here in the name of God and I do it.”

That iteration of the reunion tour would be canceled a short time later due to a vocal injury for Lauryn Hill.  The rescheduled 2024 version of the tour was canceled because of low ticket sales.  Pras of The Fugees agrees with fans about Lauryn’s consistent lateness, and thinks her previous cancelations have made it hard for fans to be confident in their support.

We go down the rabbit hole of the history of Lauryn Hill lateness and cancelations.

Let’s start with the 2010 incident…

During this particular concert, she was scheduled to start early in the night. But of course, Lauryn Hill did not show up until after 11pm. Many of her fans found it to be distasteful as they held up signs displaying their annoyance towards her tardiness.

During the annual Cape Town International Jazz Festival fans walked out…

Arriving 30 minutes late to the annual Cape Town International Jazz Festival in 2012, many of Lauryn Hill’s fans walked out during her performance.

Chicago House of Blues in 2014…

A fan addressed Ms. Lauryn Hill when she showed up almost an hour after the show was suppose to start. The fan was immediately removed from the audience. She spoke to the crowd, “I do this because I love it, not because I owe you anything.” She continued expressing herself, “You can say whatever you want, I don’t give a rat’s a**.”

Seattle was excited for Lauryn Hill  to be in the city…

Ms. Lauryn Hill is known for many things but punctuality isn’t one of them. In November 2023, Lauryn Hill had a concert in Seattle where the show was suppose to start at 8PM. Hill did not make it on stage until 10:20PM — according to the Seattle Theater. From the details of the show, it seems as though Lauryn Hill sung four songs before exiting stage left at 11PM.

Although there were many fans who were excited and happy to be at her concert, there were more than a few that were quite upset. From the reviews, many of the fans said the the show was incredible, that she laid her vocals on the stage. While others expressed their annoyance in the beginning but explained that it ended lovely.

It’s safe to say that you can expect Lauryn Hill to show up late. So whether you are a true fan or just wanting to attend a concert, don’t expect her to show up on time.
