The wait is finally over for many fans as SZA has dropped the long-anticipated SOS deluxe. The new album comes two full years after the release of the original SOS release (December 9, 2022). After some early delays the album premiered around 3:00pm EST. As usual, fans quickly ingested the project and took to social media to share their thoughts, some fawning over the project, others unable to get over the extended delay surrounding the deluxe. Here’s a look at early reactions to the SZA SOS Deluxe: LANA album.
Earlier this month SZA released an Instagram snippet starring Ben Stiller and playing a song on the deluxe version of the album titled “ Drive.” SZA first shared the title “Lana” back in 2023 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Although it was initially presented as a deluxe album, many thought it would evolve into a stand alone album because of various leaks. SZA put that speculation to be with the snippet, making it clear that the SOS Deluxe: LANA album’s release would coincide with the 2nd anniversary of the original SOS album. The Grammy winning original album featured 5 Billboard Hot 100 hit songs.
Up until release day though, delays plagued the project. Hours before the drop SZA took to Instagram to announce that they “just needed a few more hours.” Punch, the president of SZA’s label, Top Dawg Entertainment, posted on X to verify the album would be out at noon.

That didn’t little to calm the fans down, but when the release finally made it’s way to streaming services, all was okay.
Once it dropped SZA returned to social to thank everyone for their patience.

The SZA SOS Deluxe: LANA album includes 15 songs with previously revealed songs like “Diamond Boy “ and “BMF.” The project also includes a brand new feature from Kendrick Lamar called “30 for 30.” Fans immediately wondered if the pair would perform the song on their joint Grand National tour. 15 songs for a deluxe album is pretty unprecedented. Fans probably would have been fine with a 15 song LANA album, but honestly the quantity of the album doesn’t matter very much compared to the quality, which fans had much to say.
