Fruitvale Station
Starting with his early work, Coogler wrote and directed the film, Fruitvale Station in 2013. It starred Michael B. Jordan like many of his other films, and follows the real life story of Oscar Grant. Grant was doing his best to live a good life with his girlfriend and child, but was tragically killed in an altercation with police.
The film won multiple awards including an Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature in 2014, an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Independent Motion Picture in 2014, and more.
The movie grossed $17.4 million against a $900,000 budget.
Creed
Coogler quickly found success with larger films, taking on the next generation of the Rocky franchise with Creed. The film follows the story of Apollo Creed’s son, Adonis, who never met his father. Still, this didn’t stop him from getting into boxing himself. He goes against many great fighters, and his will as a fighter is tested in each of the three films.
The original movie grossed $174.17 million worldwide against a $35 million budget. Creed II grossed $214.1 million worldwide against a budget of $50 million, and Creed III made $276.1 million worldwide against a budget of $75 million.
Black Panther
Black Panther took Coogler’s career into a whole other stratosphere altogether. Quickly becoming one of the top grossing Marvel movies of all time, the film helped pad the Ryan Coogler net worth and helped him command anything he wanted from Hollywood. The first Black Panther film grossed at $1.3 billion (CNBC) and Wakanda Forever grossed $859 million (Box Office Mojo).
Sinners
Coogler’s most recent film is Sinners, which is about twin brothers who have come back to their home down South to start a small club space for the Black community when unintended supernatural things start to happen. The film was released on April 18th, 2025.
Sinners has already earned $93 million worldwide (The Independent) and counting. So, with all of this success, how much is Ryan Coogler really worth?
He’s certainly lining himself up for the long term. Coogler guaranteed himself with long term financial capital with his deal with Warner Bros for the film Sinners, which will allow him to retain the rights of the film after 25 years. Also part of his request, was to receive a percentage of box-office revenue as soon as the movie hit theaters — instead of after the studio makes a profit, which will help him bring in some additional instant capital.
According to multiple sources, Coogler currently has a net worth of $25 million, which still sounds pretty low, considering how successful his films have been in recent years. With the multiple hits he has already and new projects on the way, he is sure to make more in the future.
