The Justin and Hailey Bieber relationship has been a somewhat controversial topic for quite some time. Between the old Selena and Justin fans and the newer Hailey and Justin fans, the public has not been short of sharing their own opinions on Justin’s relationships. To catch you up to speed, here is a timeline of Justin and Hailey Bieber relationship over the years, and where they are now.
Timeline of the Justin and Hailey Bieber Relationship
The Beginning
The two met in 2009. Hailey’s dad, Stephen Baldwin, is famous in his own right as an actor, so he has access to important people, and other celebrity perks. Because of this, Hailey’s dad was able to get Hailey a backstage pass at “The Today Show” where she was able to meet her future husband for the first time. Hailey and Justin were 13 and 15-years-old respectively.
Two years later, the two met again at the premiere of “Never Say Never” in Times Square. However, at the time of this meeting, Justin had already started famously dating Selena Gomez, who he will go back and forth with multiple times before officially getting with Hailey. To some’s surprise, Hailey tweeted in support of their relationship calling them the “definition of a teenage dream.”
After being with Selena for about three years, Justin and Selena split in 2014. One alleged reason for this is that there were some trust issues between the two, as there were rumors going around that Justin was cheating with his now wife Hailey. However, this was never proven.
Bieber was arrested for drunk driving in the beginning of 2014. He also allegedly got into a physical altercation with Orlando Bloom about six months later. This was the beginning of his “bad boy” image that led to some damage to his reputation, and likely added some strain to their relationship (Vogue).
A Confusing Period
2015 was a very unclear year for relationships. Selena dated Zedd for a bit and Justin was doing his thing. However, by the end of the year, Justin and Selena showed that they were not done with each other just yet. They were spotted hugging at a hotel bar where he serenaded her to the song “My Girl,” which seemed quite romantic.
Hailey, on the other hand, became close with the Jenners. Through them, she also started seeing Justin more. Despite the many pictures and posts of them getting a bit closer than friends usually would, the two made it clear through interviews and social media posts that they were just friends and nothing more. Despite this, on December 27th of 2015 they were spotted together at dinner in New York, then again the next morning at a diner in New Jersey. They then went on a vacation together with Bieber’s family about three days later (Cosmopolitan).
An odd point that has stood out to many is a tattoo that Justin, Hailey, and Selena all seem to have. It is a tattoo of a “g,” which for Justin and Hailey was a tribute to the daughter of their pastor. Her name is Georgia, and she was born with lissencephaly, a rare brain disorder. So, what does this have to do with Selena? Selena also has a “g” tattoo, and she had hers before Hailey did. Fans thought that this was an odd attempt at Hailey trying to measure up to Justin’s past lover. However, Selena also has a younger sister named Grace, so chances are that it’s just a coincidence.
On January 4th of 2016, Justin posted a video of him and Hailey making out. You might think that’s when they got together right? Wrong. After that, they stopped talking for about two years. Justin then started dating Sofia Richie, and Hailey and Justin unfollowed each other on Instagram. Hailey was seen with Shawn Mendes on multiple occasions, which raised eyebrows for many. However, they never confirmed that they were dating.

Rekindling an Old Relationship
By the middle of 2018, Hailey and Justin became friends again. Hailey deleted all of her posts with Shawn Mendes and started posting Justin a lot. By July 7th, they got engaged, and they got their marriage license in September. Despite postponing their wedding multiple times, they had their wedding ceremony on September 30th, 2019.

They spent the next few years traveling, doing photoshoots, and posting a lot together. The posted Christmas pictures, birthday pictures, a Calvin Klein photoshoot, and more. However, the public had no issues asking questions and making assumptions about their relationship.
Rocky Times
The two discussed their relationship in multiple interviews. In April of 2021, Justin told GQ about the troubles surrounding his first year of marriage. He said the first year was hard because he had to deal with a lot of past traumas. This seemed to create a lack of trust in the relationship.
Hailey had also been asked a few questions about their relationship in interviews. However, by February of 2022, she said they she’d stop telling the public about their relationship details. This was due to people on social media constantly taking her words out of context.
By April of 2022, she was clearly fed up with the public dragging her through the mud, especially Jelena fans (people who ship Justin and Selena) who would leave nasty comments on her posts. She made a Tik Tok showing her frustration and urging people to leave her alone.
While fans still constantly assumed something was wrong, the two continued to post each other and celebrate the good moments for 2023. They continued to show up to events together, go on vacations, post on birthdays, and more. In April of 2024, Hailey announced that she was pregnant, and baby Jack was born on August 23rd, 2024.
Recent Events
There were multiple instances following where fans were once again confused about the state of Justin and Hailey Bieber’s relationship. For one, in April of 2025, Justin Bieber was seen with Sexyy Red, and their interaction seemed quite flirtatious.
About a month after that, he sang live with SZA on her tour where they performed the song “Snooze.” There was a point in the performance where SZA held Justin’s face as they sang together.
On the other hand, there are multiple videos of them having less-than-perfect moments. An example of this is Justin saying to Hailey “if you weren’t so hot, I would’ve gotten rid of you a long time ago.”
Despite the rocky road the couple has had, and the tumultuous timeline of the Justin and Hailey Bieber relationship, the two are still together and raising a child. They seem to make their love for each other very clear in the public eye, and we hope for their happiness in the future.
