Have you ever considered starting your own business, but just didn’t quite know where to start? If you, like many others are consumed with the daily hustle of life and are tired of working that 9-5.  And you have an entrepreneurial mindset with a “go getting” spirit, then this may be the time to start your business. While deciding whether or not to start a business, time plays a major factor and is often a deterrent for many people; however, the truth is, there may never be a “right” time – something will always come up and most likely you’ll end up putting the needs of others before yourself.  Nonetheless, we understand that because starting a business is easier said than done, we have put together some information that may help you determine if you’re truly ready to take that leap.

First and foremost, before starting your business you must first determine if you have an entrepreneurial mindset.  There are four ways that may help guide you toward your entrepreneurial success and they are as follows:

  • Get Clear About What You Want – The first step and one that is an integral part of this process is to be clear about what it is that you want to achieve. When starting a new business, it isn’t enough to just come up with an idea and write it down, you must set clear, specific goals for yourself that will enable you to reach the next step – break down each individual goal into bite-size goals and come up with ways, in which to achieve those goals.  Breaking your list down will help to avoid becoming overwhelmed and to also make sure you are accomplishing everything that’s on your list.

  • Take Action Steps Toward the Pursuit of Your Business – Once you have a clear and concise vision of your goals and how to achieve them, it is time to take those action steps.  With this step, you really have to put in the effort – you cannot wait for someone to create a lane for you, you must create your own lane, and that takes motivation, dedication, and persistence.  I encourage you to declare aloud, and to anyone you can that supports you, what your action steps are – this way, you are accountable to your word.

  • Delegate Some of Your Tasks – Yes, we know that you’re still trying to get your business off the ground and don’t have the overhead to pay a business partner or associates to help you during this process, but consider allowing family members and/or friends that support your dream to help take some of the load off.  During which time, you are consistently focusing on learning all you need to know about your new business as well as preparing yourself for when your business takes off to be in a position of delegation.

  • Letting Go of The Old – While starting your business venture, you’re going to have to let a few things go.  During this time be prepared to be uncomfortable.  Your home may need to be a little cluttered or less clean, and you may need to let go of a few past times, but in the end it’ll all be worth it if it means solely getting to focus on your goals of owning a business without distractions.

However, keep in mind that your day job is important, that is, until you’re financially secure in your new business endeavor.  It may be a difficult road to travel, but having an entrepreneurial mindset is a gift and once you open it, you will be happy that you did.  So, whether starting small with an online business, a pop-up shop, or a commercial or retail space, the above tips are sure to get you moving in the right direction for whatever business you desire to start.
