Author and video vixen Brittany Renner and rapper Kevin Gates surprised everyone when they came out publicly with their brief marriage and quickie divorce months later.
Let’s examine the Brittany Renner and Kevin Gates relationship from start to finish and where they stand today after their short-lived relationship.
How It All Started
The pair met on the set of Gates’ music video for “Bad for Me” back in 2022, where Renner was his leading lady in the video. Although it was a very romantic video, the pair never engaged in any actual kissing or anything too intimate.
A month later, the pair was spotted at a music festival, reportedly getting flirty with each other. Later, she interviewed him and he was very complimentary of her living her truth, saying he loved what he was seeing now.
He also mentioned at the time he wasn’t involved with anyone and wasn’t looking, but clearly, he had his eyes on her.
Gates was then seen on a video talking explicitly about having relations with Renner in vivid detail, which pretty much gave away that he and Renner were more than just friends.
But she was in the process of trying to change her image by converting to Islam, giving up sex for eight months and giving up drinking for six months. At the time she also mentioned that she wasn’t interested in dating Muslim men despite her conversion because of the number of married men entering her DM’s.
“I didn’t come this far to be one of several, so let’s be very crystal clear on that. When you go without sex for an extended amount of time, and you are honoring yourself in a way that you never have before, you start to see where people are leaking their energy and where they lack discipline,” she explained.
Previously, Renner had been involved with NBA player P.J. Washington and the then couple even had a child together.
Wedding Bells and Divorce Papers
By March 2025, it was quite obvious that the two were a couple when she was seen in the background doing a live stream in Gates’ home with DDG. By April of 2025, there was a video posted of Gates putting an engagement ring on Renner’s finger as she lovingly looked on.
At the time, there were rumors that he was seeing someone else, a woman claiming to be his then-girlfriend, who blasted the pair on social media, but their engagement shut all of that down.
Renner confirmed the rumor of their marriage with a post of the two of them at the “Basketball Wives” premiere. They were very lovey-dovey, at least on social media, as they battled trolls who called out their union.
However, by the beginning of June, Renner admitted their short union was over.
No reason was given but in the Muslim religion, a couple must wait 90 days before they are permitted to divorce in case the wife is pregnant and give the couple time to reconcile, so far, neither has happened.
Maybe the outside pressure of fans and former exes was too much for the couple to bear, and they finally gave up on their relationship. Whatever the case may be, at least for now, their marriage is over.
Kevin Gates has seemingly moved on.
