Plenty of people use SoundCloud in an attempt to start rapping, but not many are successful. Not everyone can be the next PlayBoi Carti or Rico Nasty. However, there is one relatively underrated artist who’s lyrics are aggressive, yet are a good representation of feminine energy in a male-dominated field. The artist in question is KenTheMan, and here is how she made it to fame.

Before Fame

Kentavia Tytiana Miller, better known as KenTheMan was born in Houston Texas on June 7th, 1994. In her school days, she used to write poetry and sang in the choir. However, she was always shy about performing in front of others.

According to Unpack That, KenTheMan once dated a man who was trying out music. She wrote a few verses while they were together, but due to her inexperience, she claims that they were not very good. Once they broke up, she wrote the diss track ”He Be Like,” which was officially released in 2020. It currently has over 100 million streams. She spoke also about how she worked as a waitress, but quit and went on the work for Uber Eats and Door Dash. She then wrote the song in 15 minutes while driving people their food (Houston Chronicle).

Name and Style

Similar to artists like Megan Thee Stallion and Lil Kim, KenTheMan’s raps are very raw and unapologetically explicit. While she uses a lot of sexual expression in her work, her songs have great storytelling and ultimately they empower women. She is one of the many artists that show that while women can be sexy, they can also be confident, talented, and great artists.

The rapper says that she originally wanted to go as just “Ken,” but eventually realized that there are many artists who go by that name. According to Flaunt, She considers it an alter ego where she can go up against these male rappers in her own feminine way.

KenTheMan later became part of the XXL Freshman Class of 2022, and her freestyle rap showed lots of confidence and star-quality that is necessary to be a performer. In the same year, she performed at the BET Hip-Hop Awards where she was really able to show off her talent and gain more of a following. In 2023, she was signed to Roc Nation, and has made multiple hits since then. Let’s take a look at some of her music.

KenTheMan Songs

“First”

The song has the aggressive and explicit tone one would expect from this artist. The fact that there isn’t much more than some piano keys on the beat helps highlight her voice and lyrics.

“Crazy Bout Me”

The flow on this song is calm, but her witty lyrics are something you can’t miss.

“Black”

Rappers often have songs where they flex their money and cars, and this is one of hers. It’s unapologetically ratchet and confident to say the least.

“I Love A Freak”

These are the hypersexual lyrics we were talking about earlier. She isn’t afraid to put what she likes out there.

“Not My N*gga”

A mixture of sexual lyrics with confidence and self worth. We love that from woman rappers.
