HBO music box season 2 is sharing the story of the Nigerian star Wizkid in an original documentary titled “Wizkid: Long Live Lagos”. The new HBO music documentary released its trailer and is set to premiere just weeks before his December performance in Lagos.
Nigerian singer-songwriter and Grammy Award winner, Wizkid, is getting featured on HBO Music Box with his own original documentary. Wizkid, legally known as Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, is a Nigerian singer and record producer who stamped his name on the global scene after years of dominating charts in Africa. The Nigerian songwriter is known for his most-streamed single, a 2020 remix of “Essence” featuring Justin Bieber and Tems. The song was included in his Made in Lagos album and made an entry on the Billboard Hot 100.
Wizkid’s last album was titled ‘Morayo’, which translates to “I see joy” in Yoruba, named after his late mother who passed away in 2023. The album included artists like Asake, Anaïs Cardot, Brent Faiyaz, Jazmine Sullivan, and Tiakola.
When will the show be released?
The HBO music box trailer was released on November 24 and will be an 85-minute documentary. The show is prepared to air on HBO and HBO Max on December 11, 2025.
In May 2025, he achieved 20 billion global on-demand audio streams, becoming the first African artist to reach it. Subsequently, he sold over 81 million units, beating Algerian singer Cheb Khaled’s record, becoming Africa’s best-selling artist.

The HBO documentary titled Wizkid: Long Live Lagos will appear on season 2 of Music Box and credits Bill Simmons as an executive producer and Karam Gill as a director.

Although the ‘Long Live Lagos’ music documentary is coming to HBO Max’s music box season two, it was released in June 2025 at the Tribeca Film Festival. The festival celebrated African stories and produced music, marking a historic moment for African art and entertainment. It follows his artist story of grass to grace from the streets of Lagos to a global audience and performance in the UK.
