Grammy nominee, Lucky Daye, is the recent feature on Teyana Taylor’s new album, and their performance on The Tonight Show, hosted by Jimmy Fallon, gets everyone interested in facts about the singer. R&B singer, Lucky Daye, has nominated for the Grammy over 10 times, but if you still don’t know who he is, we have facts to tell you everything you need to know about the talented singer.   

Who is Lucky Daye? Facts About 10-Time Grammy Nominee

1. He was in a singing competition

Lucky Daye auditioned and participated in a singing show in 2005, where he lent his talent to other songs by famous artists. His first song was a cover of “A Change Is Gonna Come,” where he impressed the judges and received four “yes” votes.

Season 4 of American Idol was his first tv show, where he started his musical journey, introducing fans to Lucky Daye as an artist and making it as far as the Top 20.

 

2. He signed to his first record label at 32

Real fans know that Lucky Daye became famous in 2018 following his move to Los Angeles to chase his music career. Subsequently, he caught the eye of two record labels that believed in his talents and signed a deal with them. Keep Cool founder Tunji Balogun and RCA Records partnered with the artist to foster his talent and push his music to a larger audience.

 

3. He has written songs for other famous artists

When Lucky is not serenading us on stage, you can find him behind the door penning songs for other famous artists. He is a songwriter and sees lyrics in every sphere of life, turning ordinary things into well-crafted lyrics. He has been credited as a songwriter on tracks like “Please U” from Usher’s ninth album, Coming Home, “Own It” from Ella Mai’s album, and Tori Kelly’s “Make A Baby”. More recently, he collaborated with Golden Globes winner and artist Teyana Taylor on “Hard Part” off her fourth studio album after a 5-year hiatus from singing. Another fact you might find surprising about Lucky Daye is that he has written for famous stars like Beyoncé, Victoria Monet, Luke James, Mary J. Blige, Maeta, Keke Palmer, Trey Songz, and Mitchelle Williams.

 

4. He is from a religious home

Daye grew up in a religious environment and spent his childhood in the church until he was eight years old. As a Christian, only gospel music was permitted, with other songs regarded as “secular music” and frowned upon. The only music the New Orleans native knew was church hymns and nursery rhymes, eventually leaving his family church while still a teenager.

 

5. He is a 10-Time Grammy Nominee

A surprising fact a lot of people do not know about Lucky Dave is that he has been nominated for the Grammy over ten times. From melodies to stage serenades, three albums later, the R&B star is a two-time Grammy winner. His debut album, Painted (2019) had a 13-track list and was nominated in the “Best R&B Album” in 2020. A few years later, his second album Candydrip (2022) was nominated in the same category at the 2023 Grammy Awards. Additionally, “That’s You” earned him a win for Best Traditional R&B Performance, off his Algorithm (2024) album, which was also nominated for Best R&B Album.
