5 Must Read Books Recommended by BookTok For Summer ‘26

Summer and BookTok have basically become a package deal at this point. The hashtag has crossed 80 million posts as of this year, and every June the same thing happens, a handful of titles start showing up in every “what I’m reading this summer” video until they’re impossible to avoid. Here are 5 must read books recommended by BookTok, and why each one caught on.

BookTok’s Summer Reading List

Daggermouth by H.M. Wolfe

This is the romantasy pick everyone keeps circling back to. It’s a survival story first, with a slow-burn enemies-to-lovers arc layered underneath, and BookTok has responded to how earned the romance feels compared to a lot of the genre’s faster, more predictable pairings. If you’ve already run through Fourth Wing and are looking for the next thing in that lane, this is where the community is pointing people.

The other big romantasy name of the summer, and one that’s picked up a following well outside the usual fantasy crowd. It leans into a denser, more built-out world than a lot of BookTok’s typical picks, which seems to be part of the appeal, readers get the tropes they came for without the story feeling thin.

Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez

For anyone who wants something lighter, this is the rom-com BookTok keeps recommending as the “beach read” of the group. It’s built around witty back-and-forth dialogue and the kind of messy, charming chemistry that made Jimenez a repeat name on the platform well before this book.

The Last Contract of Isako by Fonda Lee

Proof that BookTok isn’t only about romance. This one follows an assassin navigating a futuristic world full of shifting alliances, and it’s given the sci-fi corner of the platform its own moment this summer, next to a romance-heavy list that usually dominates the conversation.

Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

Not new, but still very much in rotation. The Greek mythology retelling has become one of those books that resurfaces every few months on BookTok regardless of release date, similar to what happened with Colleen Hoover’s older titles once the platform got behind them.

The Book Staples That Never Really Leave

A few names are basically permanent fixtures no matter the season. It Ends with Us and Verity keep showing up, especially with Verity‘s film adaptation on the way later this year. Icebreaker and The Love Hypothesis still anchor the sports and rom-com corners, and Haunting Adeline remains the go-to for anyone searching the spicier end of the platform’s recommendations. If a list like this is your first time hearing about BookTok’s “spice” ratings, that’s the corner of the app you’ll want to know about before picking one up.

Between the new arrivals and the titles that just won’t quit, this 2026 BookTok summer reading list is a decent snapshot of where the platform’s taste actually sits right now, part romantasy, part rom-com, and still very willing to bring an older book back from the dead if the algorithm decides it’s time.
