Wait, CBS’ SWAT  has suddenly been renewed?

The network just announced that it would renew S.W.A.T. for a seventh and final season, reversing its earlier decision to discontinue the program.

According to CBS, the season will only consist of 13 episodes and will premiere in 2023 or 2024. There are typically 22 episodes in a network season.

The show’s star, Shemar Moore, criticized the network’s decision to cancel the program after six seasons over the weekend and called it “a f— mistake.” He emphasized the show’s diverse cast and high ratings while urging viewers to “make… noise” in response to the cancellation.

Amy Reisenbach (CBS Entertainment President) and Katherine Pope (Sony Pictures Television Studios President) said in a joint statement: “We have listened to our viewers and their outpouring of passion for S.W.A.T. and we have reached an agreement to renew it for a final season of 13 episodes to air during the 2023-2024 broadcast year. S.W.A.T. has aired for six seasons on CBS and garnered a devoted following. We are pleased that we found a way to bring it back and give closure to the show’s storylines and characters, which audiences deserve.”

SWAT Series Gets Renewed By CBS

Moore stated in a video he shared on Instagram on Friday that the elimination of S.W.A.T. “makes no sense,” being it’s the “most diverse show” on CBS. The actor also identified himself as “the only African American male lead on network television.”

Moore warned, “I will get in a lot of trouble with CBS because I’m calling them out,” but added that he’s had a positive working relationship with the network for a while now thanks to his appearances on Criminal Minds and The Young and the Restless.

“But to abruptly get told that you’re canceled. When you led us to believe last week and the week before and the week before that, that we would have some semblance of a Season 7 to at least say goodbye, if not continue,” Moore furthered.

To push CBS executives to reconsider canceling S.W.A.T., Shemar Moore urged fans to “make some f— noise.”

“This ain’t the way to go out. If we’re gonna go out, cool, but let us go out right,” Moore expressed.

The final two episodes of S.W.A.T.‘s sixth season air May 12 and May 19.
