Review: Joey Jihad “Mo Money Mo Problems”

427

Faced with a soul-crushing dearth of deserving Freestyles this week, I have once again stretched my already lack definitions and, this time, the very fabric of time and space, to reach backwards and find an old cut that I hope will be New To You.

The beat is instantly recognizable and needs no introduction, but the rapper might: Joey Jihad is an underground Philly cat known predominantly for energetic, bubbly flows with a touch of the city’s large Jamaican Diaspora; a catchy and above average talent who seems at his best on other people’s beats. He takes a hammer to it on “Mo Money Mo Problems,” laying down verses that can spar with the best that have tread upon this familiar ground.

If this is your first introduction to Haddy, it is probably the best you will receive.
