Young M.A. Is On A Mission To Tell Her Story

As long as you’ve paid your internet bill then I’m sure you’ve been hipped to East Coast rapper Katorah Marrero, better known by her rap moniker, Young M.A. “Eat your food and leave you wit a clean plate N*gga” the bar from Young M.A’s new single “Get This Money” is one that would easily describe the hardcore rapper’s style.

Young M.A started rapping at a young age but drifted away from music shortly after her brother’s death.  The Brooklyn native couldn’t stay away for long though. In 2014 Young M.A bum-rushed the rap scene with her “Chiraq Freestlye” video, which gained over 1.8 million youtube views. The next year she swept the internet again with youtube hit, “Body Bag” from her Sleep Walkin mixtape. Young M.A would soon become an internet sensation. I personally remember watching her perform “Body Bag” at Opera nightclub during Atlanta’s 2015 Black pride and I knew instantly she would be a problem.

Young M.A cites 50 Cent as one her biggest Hip-Hop influences and has admitted that his song “Many Men” is actually the reason she began rapping.  The influence shows through in the aggressiveness with which M.A. delivers her music.

In 2016, the Redlyfe Affiliate crossed over to mainstream with her hit single “Ooouuu” which peaked at No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. “Ooouuu” was such a success it made industry artists 50 cent, Jadakiss, and Nicki Minaj hit the booth to create remixes. Young M.A went on to perform her hit single at the 2016 BET Awards and is now one of the most talked about artists in the industry. She was even offered a role on the popular television show Empire, which she turned down. “I just didn’t want to be known as a character from Empire before I was known as Young M.A,” she explained during her 2016 interview with Rolling Stone magazine.

Young M.A sat with many major labels from Universal to RCA and Atlantic Records but is not ready to sign. The 24 year old artist has been touring like crazy since her stardom and is now working with producer Swizz Beatz. She recently told  Fuse TV that Swizz will be producing a few tracks on her unreleased album.
