Drake Will Star In The New Season of British Drama ‘Top Boy’
Rapper Gets Major Role In A UK Crime Series, Top Boy
Amidst the release of his latest project, More Life, Drake has some other exciting things on his radar right now. The actor-turned-rapper will reportedly star in the new season of a London-based crime drama, Top Boy. The series, which originally aired in 2011 on UK TV’s Channel 4, centers the lives of a group of people and their heinous drug dealing, street gang lifestyles.
Though Top Boy was canceled after season two, back in 2013, it is now returning for a season three, coming to Netflix in 2018. Drake has been a fan of the series for a while, so we’re pretty sure that this is something big for him, personally. According to various media outlets, he has even purchased rights to the series after it was dropped from the broadcaster.
“We met up to start talking about the show and we are working out a role for him,” Ashley Walters, who portrays leading character Dushane, told Daily Mirror. “He loves acting, of course, he wanted a part. He’s going to be really hands on and is getting stuck into it.”
There are currently no details about Drake’s character. However, the producers are working towards giving him a major role.
We’re glad to see Drake back on the television side of things. Many of you may remember him as Jimmy Brooks in the 2001 Canadian teen drama, Degrassi: The Next Generation. He starred in the show for a total of six years but left to pursue his music career. Top Boy will be Drake’s first ongoing role in a series since Degrassi, which was almost ten years ago.
