Mara and Salim Akil Work Together to Produce a New Series for OWN, Titled, Love Is ____

OWN is set to premiere a new show beginning June 19th at 10:00 p.m., airing right after Tyler Perry’s The Haves and Have Nots. Coined under the title Love Is _____, the forthcoming show is created by award-winning producer Mara Brock Akil, who’s known for hit shows The Game, Being Mary JaneGirlfriends, and the newest superhero-based Black Lightning series, along with husband Salim Akil.

If you’ve ever been involved in a relationship, or enjoy shows which portray the reality of them, you definitely want to be tuned in for this one. Although the show is fictitious, touching base on the ups and downs of falling and staying in love, it takes its concept from the real-life relationship of Mara and Salim Akil’s and their personal experience of being two individuals who were once fighting for love and success.

Love Is ____ is a story told from the perspective of a couple in the present time about the past journeys of their relationship which led them to where they are in life now. It is set in the 1990s and takes place in Los Angles.

The cast features Michele Weaver (Illicit), who plays Nuri, a bubbly personality with big dreams of becoming a sitcom staff writer, Will Catlett (Black Lightning) playing the role of Yasir, an aspiring writer and director who is down to his last two unemployment paychecks, Yootha Wong-Li-Sing, portraying Ruby, Yasir’s ex, and Tyrone Marshall Brown (Bull) taking on the character Sean, Yasir’s opinionated friend.

Viewers can also expect to see Idara Victor, Kadeem Hardison, The Wire‘s Clarke Peters as present-day Yasir and Wendy Davis as present-day Nuri.
