Detroit Is Naming a Street After Michael Jackson
Michael Jackson will not only forever hold a place in our hearts but apparently in the Motor City as well.
On Thursday, officials of Detroit, Michigan announced that they would be naming a street in honor of the late, iconic entertainer, which will take place during Detroit Music Weekend, Raw Story reports.
According to the media platform, the street, set to be called Michael Jackson Avenue, will be a renamed segment of Randolph Street in the city’s downtown theater district and will serve as a celebratory mark of Jackson’s outstanding contribution to Detroit’s musical legacy.
The tribute also comes fifty years after The Jackson 5 signed a recording contract with the legendary Motown Records.
“The Jacksons were among the first groups of Black American performers to attain crossover status, and [they] went on to release hit after hit after hit,” City Spokesman Stephen Grady boasted.
The street renaming is scheduled for June 15th, merely ten days before Jackson’s nine-year death anniversary.
However, Detroit is known for its celebratory marks throughout the city. Last year, they honored proclaimed “Queen of Soul” Aretha Franklin with a street called Aretha Franklin Way.
Who do you think should be next to get a street named after them?
