Anxiety affects 40 million people in America every year. That’s almost a fifth of the population, making anxiety the most common mental illness in the country.

Most anxiety disorders can be treated effectively, but many sufferers don’t get the care they need. Anxiety knows no boundaries, affecting rich, poor, and celebrities alike. Here are the strategies some famous people with anxiety use to cope.

  1. Whoopi Goldberg

Actress Whoopi Goldberg says she often uses vaping as a way to relieve stress. She  has even given her trusty vape pen a nickname, ‘Sippy.’

Funny girl Lena Dunham cites the benefits of exercise to help cope with anxiety. She has been a longtime sufferer of obsessive-compulsive disorder.

She’s quoted as saying, ‘To those struggling with anxiety, OCD, depression, I know it’s mad annoying when people tell you to exercise. It took me about sixteen medicated years to listen. I’m glad I did.’

  1. Dan Harris

The co-anchor of ABC’s Nightline program suffered a panic attack while on the air. He uses meditation to cope with his anxiety. ‘Meditation is a doable, realistic, scientifically researched way to get happier, calmer, and nicer.’ he says.
