Missy Elliott is having quite the year! Earlier in the year she was elected to the Songwriters Hall of Fame, becoming the first female rapper to get the honor. She performed at Essence Music Festival in July. And most recently she was named the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award recipient at this year’s MTV Music Awards. Now, we have a surprise new album from the rapper, the first in 14 years. The Missy Elliott Iconology album was released on August 23, 2019.
Missy announced the release of the album with a post on social media:
This year has been a tremendous year for me…I am humbled and grateful. THANK YOU for allowing me to smell the roses. You, my fans, and God are the reason I am here and have celebrated every milestone with me! So, I have a SURPRISE for you… let’s continue the celebration at midnight tonight…I’m dropping a collection of new songs!
