The media is constantly flooding our screens and magazines with images of luxury and extravagance, making it difficult not to compare our own lives to those depicted everywhere else. Elegance and luxury are shown to be some sort of exclusive commodity only available to the extremely wealthy. This is not true. Anyone with good budgeting skills, a tasteful eye, and a bit of patience can achieve the same effect. Here are a few useful tips to help you transform your home into an elegant paradise.

Thrift Selectively and Patiently

Thrift stores are an excellent option when it comes to finding hidden gems on a tight budget. Pre-loved furniture will be much more affordable and have more of a personality than something new from a regular store. Don’t rush in and expect to see something wonderful straight away, however. Visit several thrift stores and return occasionally to see what new donations they have on sale. Sooner or later, you will find that perfect piece to add to your home and enhance the elegance. Be careful not to buy too much or else you might end up with a disjointed aesthetic, which rarely results in elegance.

Protect What You Have

Part of styling more elegance into your home means taking good care of what you already own. Unless certain items suit the distressed and well-loved look, keep everything polished, clean and in good repair. If you think you might have pests in your home, protect your possessions by seeking the assistance of Moxie Pest Control; otherwise you’ll run the risk of having to replace certain pieces. Your furniture and décor don’t need to be expensive to look elegant; simply keep it clean and neat in order to convey a sense of effortless luxury.

Stick to a Style

As mentioned briefly above, disjointed aesthetics are rarely elegant. Choose a look and commit to it, at least within a single room. This gives the impression of a cohesive, well thought out space that flows attractively. Do you enjoy a highly contemporary look? Do you prefer a particular aesthetic from a period of history? Whatever it is you like best, take the time to locate pieces that enhance the look you are going for instead of rushing to buy items that simply fill the space.

Declutter and Reorganize

Get rid of everything that doesn’t serve a purpose or enhance the appearance of your home. Either donate items to charity, gift to other people or upcycle into something more suitable for your needs. By having fewer possessions, you give more attention and space to the special pieces that have earned their place in your home.

Pay Attention to Small Details

Even something as seemingly uninteresting as your soap dish or lampshade makes a difference in how elegant your home can appear. The finer details add up to create the overall impression and are therefore more important than they might first seem. Choose your ornaments and fixtures carefully, and always bear in mind the final effect you are going for.
