Big Bear is a premier destination for retreat and recreation. It covers around 600,000 acres of land in San Bernardino County. This includes hundreds of miles of developed trails for hiking, biking, and skiing.

Though it has its own airport, it is an easy 2 to 3 hours’ drive from main cities in the states like Los Angeles, San Diego, and Orange County. In fact, its popularity brings around six million tourists every year. As such, there are many Big Bear cabins for rent in the area.

At the very least, there are about 300 official accommodation listings in this place. With all the available options out there, how do you make the best choice for your holiday vacation?

Zone out on what you need

Big Bear offers a lot of activities for everyone. During the peak season in winter, many go here to ski and snowboard at the Bear Mountain or Snow Summit. The spring and summer seasons bring tourists who would like to hike or cycle.

Watersport facilities like kayaking, waterskiing, and fishing for bass and trout are also available at Big Bear Lake once the snow melts. Meanwhile, the fall season offers a scenic sight for those who would like to see vibrant foliage.

If you are planning to stay most of your time outdoors, then you might just be content with a bed and a shower facility. Perhaps you can consider renting a cabin dorm where you will be sharing a room with some people who are choosing to travel affordably

This might not be an ideal choice if you are traveling with loved ones. If it is just two of you, then a studio-type cabin would suffice. However, if you are going with a group of people, you need to rent 2 to 3 bedroom cabins, so you do not have to worry about trying to fit everyone in a small space.

Some cottages can fit in up to 16 people, but you might have to book in advance to get reservations for this large-occupancy lodging.

Check the amenities

Most people tend to look at the aesthetics of a place and not think about the facilities that may make or break your stay. If you are going during the winter, make sure that your cabin is well-equipped with a heater. It would also be helpful if your cabin has a fireplace to provide you with additional warmth.

Additionally, it would be convenient if your cabin has its kitchen equipment and barbeque facilities so you can cook your meals should you prefer it that way. When bringing your furry friend, you should check first with the host if the cabin is pet-friendly.

Settle on your budget

A simple cabin that can accommodate up to five guests can go as low as $300 a night. The average for cabins that are conveniently located near recreational facilities and offer basic furnishing would often cost around $500.

However, luxurious Big Bear cabins for rent can cost up to $2,000. Aside from looking aesthetically-pleasing, what sets these high-end cabins apart are the extra amenities that they offer, such as Jacuzzi bathtubs, game rooms, and picturesque view.

Selecting your accommodation is not an easy task; you have to factor in many things, not just the look of the place. You have to consider the amenities that you need as well as your budget. Take the time to plan and find all the options available to you before booking your Big Bear lodging.
