Previewing The Jagged Edge vs 112 Verzuz Battle

Also hailing from Atlanta, Ga, Jagged Edge, is another legendary quartet, which consists of twin brothers Brandon and Brian Casey, Richard Wingo and Kyle Norman.  Founded by Kandi Burruss of Xscape, the group was signed by Jermaine Dupri’s So So Def imprint.  Their edgy look, with smooth lyrics was a perfect juxtaposition for already established 112 and Dru Hill.  Though similar, they had their own lane and when their debut album, A Jagged Era was released in 1997, they started a run for themselves that would see back to back to back hits for years to come.

Controversy

Although, its never been too much controversy around the group, I have to make mention of a couple of things, since I gave 112 a whole section for this.

Kyle Norman has had several legal issues in the last five years for some despicable things, including abuse of his then fiance. It should be noted that he has since made amends and married the woman, and he has stayed out of trouble for the last couple of years. This is worth mentioning because Kyle was relatively absent from Jagged Edge’s last album, Layover, and touring for the project because he was dealing with those legal issues.

Not so controversial, was an R&B group named WQRL, which was working on music a few years ago, although nothing was ever released.  The members were Wingo from Jagged Edge, Q from 112, and R.L. of Next. This was supposed to be a side project for Wingo and he never indicated that he was leaving Jagged Edge.

Back to Happier Times.

Since the aforementioned debut album, Jagged Edge has released 9 albums.  Their 10th album, A Jagged Love Story was announced last year and was supposed to be released, but despite two singles, the album release date is still unknown.
