When Scotland is mentioned, what comes to many people’s minds is the rich, green scenery and the rich history and culture. However, as part of the United Kingdom, this is one of the areas that deserve attention. While many have interacted with Scotland through media such as movies, they do not fully understand its charm and beauty. In this piece, we will shed some light on why you should travel to Scotland at least once.

1.     Beautiful Scenery

Scotland is home to some of the most spectacular mountains and sites in the world, such as the Munros and brooding lochs. The overwhelming beauty that comes with these sceneries is enough to make the ardent outdoor lover visit Scotland. While the pictures of this beautiful place may look photo-shopped, they are real as it can get. The sea and waters are also serene and beautiful, and all this beauty can be breath-taking. In Scotland, one place can never be like the next.

2.     The People and Culture

The People of Scotland are known for their famous kilts and happy way of life. But, this is not the only character that makes the people of Scotland special. These people offer hospitality to their visitors, drawing them nearer, and creating a sense of love and belonging for guests. The influence of Scottish hospitality has spread so far and can be felt in places such as Florida in the USA. At this destination, they share the same tenets of Scottish hospitality. It is no wonder that visitors keep frequenting the place.

3.     For the Love of Whiskey

Whiskey is a vital part of Scottish culture. The whiskey alone might be a good enough reason to travel to Scotland. Thanks to the pure water here, the drinks are as fresh and soft as can be. Scotch Whiskey culture dates as far back as the 11th century, and today, it forms an integral part of the country’s identity. The country features 109 distilleries that mature whiskey in oak casks for at least three years. Using four ingredients (malt, peat, yeast, and water), Scotland produces some of the best whiskey ones can ask for anywhere. The whiskey is taken in special glasses and various ways, and who does not want to experience this for themselves?

4.     The Coast

There are ancient glaciers that melted to form the mighty rivers and seas in the Highlands. The landscape is, therefore, beautifully intertwined with rivers and beaches for your enjoyment. There are 9, 910 kilometers of coastline in Scotland, making it a place where you can find peace and serenity among the fishes of the sea or within the mountains. Some of the best beaches include Gullane, Arisaig and Mallaig, the Moray Coast, and Cromarty. With such a wide variety of beaches to visit, Scotland is a place you must visit at least once.

5.     Music and Dance

The traditional music of Scotland has enthralled many visitors. The regular Scottish dance dates as far back as the 18th century, and over time, the styles have evolved into what it is today. A particular favorite is Reels, a dance that is done by three or more dancers on the spot. The dance is done using moves and footwork that produce patterns. Some of the famous musical instruments associated with traditional Scottish music and dance is the Great Highland Bagpipe. If you enjoy music and dance, then you will want to explore the Scottish variety.

6.     The History

The history of Scotland is fascinating. It has been told in folklore and captured in songs such as Song of Fire and Ice by George R.R Martin. The past can be violent, tragic, or even haunting, but fascinating as well. Learning about the Roman frontier, Vikings and Highlanders, and how modern Scotland came to be. This is a reason to visit, especially if you have Scottish Highland Heritage. It will give you a sense of identity and become a personal experience that will never be forgotten.

7.     Wildlife

Scotland is famous for both the flora and fauna that inhabit it. A variety of animals are to be enjoyed ranging from golden eagles, seals, wildcats, pine marten, otters, whales, and red deer stag for the visitors to enjoy.
