Burna Boy has recently gotten people talking after he said he is the highest-paid artist in Africa. To be specific, Burna Boy claims to be the richest artist in Africa, past some recognizable names like Davido and Wizkid.  He made this claim as he went live on Instagram from his private jet on the 26th of March 2022.

A comment on his livestream said “Davido get money pass you” (Nigerian pidgin for “Davido is richer than you”) and he laughed it off as he said, “How?”

Another commenter said “Wizkid get money pass you,” Nigerian Pidgin for Wizid is richer than you, and Burna Boy replied by saying “that’s not true, but he’s still my man though”

He reiterated the fact that he wasn’t joking at all. Burna Boy went on to say in Nigerian pidgin, “Anybody wey e pain, work harder” meaning anyone angry about the fact, should work harder.

When queried by another commenter on his livestream, he claimed he was sure about the earnings of other artists and also said “And if they do any disrespect, then I will expose them. Let’s get that clear. Combine, when I say combine, I mean everybody dey inside. I no beat round the bush.” The Grammy award winner boasted that there aren’t any exceptions to his claims, despite different fan bases believing some of his peers in the industry out-earn him.

This caused a lot of frenzy and debate and Burna boy came on Twitter to speak more on the topic, making it known that money isn’t the most important thing to him, but performing is.

I said money doesn’t satisfy me and it’s my Truth but it Doesn’t change the fact that I’m the highest paid artist in the History of African music. Believe it or not.

At this point I just want to LIVE and DIE on STAGE with my Band The OUTSIDERS. I’ve achieved All the dreams I ever personally had. Money gives me No satisfaction, Nothing really does, except being On STAGE with my God sent band.
