Michael Jackson Was found Innocent 17 Years Ago Today

In 1993, Michael Jackson was accused of abusing a child of a family friend, per thethings.com. After this first accusation, more children stepped forward saying the same thing. Michael Jackson was then accused in 2005 of the same allegations. The trial that proved Michael Jackson’s innocence and the trial that fans are celebrating today (June 13th) is known as The People of the State of California v. Michael Joe Jackson.

According to the New York Times, “Mr. Jackson was prosecuted on 10 felony counts – four of child molesting, one of attempted child molesting, four of administering alcohol to aid in the commission of a felony, and conspiracy to commit child abduction, false imprisonment and extortion. Together, the charges carried a maximum possible sentence of more than 18 years in prison. Mr. Jackson was accused of molesting the boy in February or March 2003 at his 2,700-acre Neverland Valley ranch. Prosecutors said the singer had plied the youth with alcohol in order to abuse him and had later conspired to intimidate and restrict the freedom of the boy, who is now 15, and his mother to keep them away from the news media. But the verdict clearly showed that the jury had found the testimony of the accuser’s family – the boy, his mother, and his brother – to be not credible.”

Fans Use #ApologizeToMichaelJackson to Mark 17th Anniversary of Michael Jackson’s Innocence

I once heard someone say that there are no fans like Michael Jackson fans. Although the #Beyhive gives Michael Jackson fans a run for their money, I would have to agree with that sentiment. It’s been 17 years since Michael Jackson was found innocent of all charges and fans will not let anyone forget how the media and the accusers mistreated Michael Jackson.

I don’t see as many Black people in my mentions using the hashtag but it’s going viral with people chiming in about Michael Jackson’s legacy and innocence. Last year the hashtag was #MichaelJacksonInnocent but this year fans are using #ApologizeToMichaelJackson.
