YNW Melly death penalty has been dropped from the double-murder trial in the latest preliminary hearing that took place in Broward County on Wednesday, July 6. Melly’s attorney confirmed the information to XXL.

23-year-old Jamell Maurice Demons, known professionally as YNW Melly (an initial for Young Nigga World Melly), is an American rapper and singer. He was arrested and charged in 2019 with two counts of first-degree murder. He and another rapper, YNW Bortlen, reportedly shot and killed longtime friends Anthony “YNW Sakchaser” Williams and Christopher “YNW Juvy” Thomas Jr. Since the inception of the case, the state of Florida has sought the death penalty against Melly.

The last several months have been so busy in the court, and finally, the judge has decided to drop the death penalty from the list of punishments Melly could face – in favor of his attorney.

Melly’s mother, Jamie King took to social media to celebrate the judge’s announcement. Thank you Jesus #FreeMelly2022,” she wrote in an Instagram upload. “I’m literally crying real tears you coming home son @ynwmelly,” she captioned the post.

Here are reactions from Melly’s fans and other concerned people on Twitter.
