The So So Def family are beefing once again. Recently, Jermaine Dupri said in an interview the he was the pioneering mastermind behind BET’s 106 & Park, and the remarks triggered a social media war between Bow Wow and Da Brat. “106 & Park was created by me. I created the show for Bow Wow,” said Dupri.
On Ray Daniels’ The GAUDS Show, Dupri went on about how he spawned 106th & Park: “I was watching MTV, and MTV had TRL, and they was catering to N’Sync, and they was catering to Backstreet Boys and anything white that was coming out that was pop. … I’m like ‘yo, we don’t have nothing for Black people like that.’ They wasn’t gon’ put Bow Wow on TRL like that ’cause he was a rapper. He was a Black little young boy rapping, but he was also 12 years old. Nobody on TV was 12 years old anywhere creating this type of pandemonium right?”
Dupri added: “I went to Stephen Hill, and I’m like, ‘Yo, we need this show. … We need a show on BET that shows Black artists like this.’” After Bow Wow heard the interview, he tweeted: “JD ain’t create 106&Park stop the cap. Stephen hill Rick Grimes & all the great people in the BET OFFICE & staff created that show. All I did was capitalize off of what they created and made it mine. I would know…. I am Mr 106! I would never take away from someone’s creativity.” And when Da Brat saw Bow Wow‘s tweet, she wigged out.
Stephen Hill, the exec at BET the So So Def mogul spoke of, agreed with the “Fresh Az I’m Iz” rapper that Dupri did not propose the music video show. Bow Wow caught wind of Da Brat‘s Instagram post towards him and followed up by tweeting: “We live in a weird time when telling the truth is being rude. Or keeping it a buck is disrespectful…. You cant be serious.”
