Regina King posted a heartful tribute memorializing her late son one year after his passing. The Academy Award winner hopped on social media recently and shared footage of a lantern she enkindled to honor what would have been the 27th birthday of her son, Ian Alexander Jr.. The actress wrote, “January 19th is Ian’s Worthday. As we still process his physical absence, we celebrate his presence. We are all in different places on the planet…so is Ian. His spirit is the thread that connects us.” Alexander Jr. committed suicide in 2022.

“Of course orange is your favorite color…Its the fire and the calm. I see you in everything I breath,” the “Ray” star added. “My absolute favorite thing about myself is being ….Regina the mother of Ian the GodKing. Continue to shine bright,my guiding light.” Merely one day after his birthday, Alexander Jr. took his life on Jan. 20, 2022. The iconic actor confirmed the passing of her son in an official statement. “Our family is devastated at the deepest level by the loss of Ian. He is such a bright light who cared so deeply about the happiness of others. Our family asks for respectful consideration during this private time. Thank you,” wrote King.

Alexander Jr. was Regina King‘s only child, and over the years the “Miss Congeniality 2: Armed & Fabulous” actress has never turned down the opportunity to comment about her gigantesque love for her late son. When previously chatting with People, King spoke about the bond and love a child and parent share. “You don’t know what unconditional love is. You may say you do, but if you don’t have a child, you don’t know what that is.”

Regina King went on, “When you experience it, it’s the most fulfilling [thing] ever.” “The Harder They Fall” star and her late son even have Aramaic tattoos that match, which in English translates to “unconditional love” — King‘s on her arm and Alexander’s on his shoulder. King‘s Instagram tribute reminds us all to cherish the time you have with your loved ones before it expires.
