In 2018, Nicki Minaj and Cardi B engaged in an open dispute in front of the world as the new blood was coming in to seize the thrown from the queen. Fast forward five years, and the ladies have taken the blades from each other’s throats and are out in the hip hop world further cementing their own legacies. Likewise, most onlookers have remained indifferent on the subject of who is the better emcee between female rap superstars. Naturally, there’s always an exception to the rule: and in this case it’s 50 Cent, the master of trolling.
Never afraid to rock the boat or go against the grain, 50 Cent weighed in on the rivalry between Cardi B and Nicki Minaj in a recent Billboard interview commemorating the 20th anniversary of “Get Rich or Die Tryin‘” (his groundbreaking debut album). In the beginning, the “9 Shots” rapper is reticent about picking a side, stating, “Hip-hop culture makes you battle. I love Nicki Minaj, but the funny sht is, I like watching her when she’s upset… When Cardi B came, I thought she was dope… When her and Nicki clash, I go, ‘Oh, sht, it’s going to be interesting to watch how it plays out.’ Lyrically, I won’t say anything competitively about the two of them.”
It was long before 50 Cent spewed out his ideal choice between Nicki Minaj and Cardi B, though, confessing, “… I love Nicki. I don’t have anything against Cardi. I think anyone who comes now, she is going to check their temperature. Nicki is going to check if this btch is friendly or looking to take over the sht.”
Nicki is definitely one to G-check a lady rapper, though over the past years, she’s embraced the new class of female emcees by working with the likes of Doja Cat, Coi Leray, and others. Both Nicki Minaj and 50 Cent recently made Billboard’s list of 50 Greatest Rappers of All Time — the G-Unit mogul came in at number 17, while the Young Money star secured the number 10 slot — Cardi B was not on the list.
