After several months of being accused of copyright intrusions, Instagram has finally taken down pics Cardi B posted where she dressed up as Marge Simpson. Since November 2022, artist AleXsandro Palombo has had the “Hot Sh*t” hit maker back and forth in court after contending his artwork “Marge Simpson Style Icon” (created in 2013) was illicitly filched by the superstar rapper. Cardi posted a variation of the eclectic illustrator’s original artwork on her Instagram page, and credited a Thierry Mugler dress from 1995 as the focal point of her inspiration.

Leaving Palombo out of her post’s credits, Cardi B shared pics on Instagram of her in the Thierry Mugler dress and a Marge Simpson wig. Palombo evidently asked the Bronx native to take the photos down, which she disregarded. However, Meta (Instagram and Facebook’s owner) deleted Cardi‘s Halloween pics this week. “Cardi B and her collaborators have used my artwork without any authorization, debasing its original meaning… that has nothing to do with that path of social awareness that has always characterized my works,” said a triumphant Palombo following Meta removing the rapper’s photos.

A decade ago, Palombo conceived the impinging artwork as a tribute to the fabled animated character from The Simpsons. His goal was to reshape Marge Simpson the housewife and mom into a fashion symbol, depicting his acuity as a “work of reflection on gender equality and women’s emancipation”. Vogue UK undraped the series and Palombo garnered cultists worldwide amidst art aficionados.

Claudio Volpi, Palombo’s attorney, spoke to a local free daily newspaper in the UK: “This is an event of fundamental importance in the process of legal and factual protection of the works of authors and artists… [Their] creations are frequently used by subjects who believe they enjoy a state of impunity due to their fame, wealth and power.” After reportedly “violating the conditions of use on the copyright of the Meta community,” Kollin Carter and Jora Frantzis (The “Bodak Yellow” rapper’s creative team) have now given proper credit to Palombo.
