Ice T is credited with being the rap artist that started gangster rap — so that alone should tell you why the news of him receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame spun his head around. On Tuesday (January 31), The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce confirmed that the “New Jack Hustler” rapper will receive his star at the popular tourist attraction during a ritual on February 17. Joining Ice T at the ceremony will be Dick Wolf (creator of “Law & Order”), Mariska Hargitay (co-star on “Law & Order: Special Victims Units), Chuck D (Public Enemy member and hip hop activist) as guest speakers.

Contrary to his long-standing role as Detective Fin Tutuola on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” Ice T is being awarded the Hollywood Walk Of Fame star in the category of Recording due to his avant-garde music career. In a statement, Ana Martinez (Hollywood Walk of Fame producer) expressed, “Ice-T is a cultural icon and a success both in the music and television industries. His fans will be very excited to see their favorite performer placed on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Ice’s star will be situated near the stars of music greats such as Thelonius Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, Luciano Pavarotti, Mama Cass Elliott, John Denver and Herbie Hancock, to name a few.”

After catching wind he’s receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, the “Colors” spitter responded with pleasant bafflement and spoke about the satire of being enshrined in the same locality where he oftentimes had run-ins with the law. Via Twitter, Ice T wrote, “When I think about how many times I got arrested in Hollywood…. This is a trip.”

Ice T becomes merely the 11th Hip Hop artist to get a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame joining iconic acts such as 50 Cent, P. Diddy, Missy Elliott, LL COOL J, Pharrell, Queen Latifah, Ice Cube, and Snoop Dogg. As far as the total number of stars on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, the “G-Style” rapper’s star becomes the 2,747th one placed on the hallowed ground.
