Just when you thought Kanye West was out of the picture, he pops out of your hallway closet and hits you with a new documentary and podcast.
BBC Music is gearing up to launch an eight-part podcast and documentary about the social calamity over the career and life of Grammy award winning producer turned fashion tycoon Kanye “Yeezy” West.
“We Need to Talk About Kanye” (a title in the works) will be backed by Mobeen Azhar, an award-winning fact-finding journalist who also backed “The Battle For Britney: Fans, Cash, And A Conservatorship” (a documentary about Britney Spears being “kept a virtual prisoner in her own home” by her father’s conservatorship).
Unfurling against the juxtaposition of Kanye West‘s 2024 U.S. Presidential campaign — and at a juncture when his unstable behavior and anti-Semitic diatribes have spurred uproar and a reassessment of his position in pop culture — the BBC documentary keeps up with Azhar as he tries to fathom the multifaceted voyage that led Ye to become one of the most celebrated and innovatively eminent artists of his time.

Different than “Jeen-Yuhs,” which supplied a personal insight at Kanye West’s travels as an upcoming artist from the viewpoint of a dear friend, “We Need to Talk About Kanye” looks to examine the “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” hit maker’s voyage from being one of the most esteemed and revered artists in the music industry, to ostensibly mutating into a lightning bolt for contention (thanks to rants he’s went on over the past year e.g. praising Hitler, bashing the Jewish media, etc.).
BBC’s documentary highlighting Kanye West derives from Forest (UK producer ) and is set to air on BBC Two.
The show was authorized by Jonathan Rothery (Head of Popular Music at BBC). Abacus Media Rights is distributing the series. Stefan Mattison is the director/producer and Laura Kaye is on board to produce also. Jez Lee and Catey Sexton are executive producing the project.
