Is DatPiff shutting down? This week, rumors that DatPiff had closed its digital archive rippled across the internet. The MediaLab-owned business posted a comment on the rumors of its collapse on Twitter on Monday night (March 13).

There was a time when many rap fans used DatPiff to get the music of their favorite artists before Spotify and Apple Music. Hip-Hop mixtapes found an unofficial home on the 18-year-old audio platform.

DatPiff tweeted from their account: “Despite the rumors, we are happy to report that we will still be supplying you with all the mixtapes you love. We’re working through technical issues on our site and app, but still actively update our YouTube! Thanks for all the love and concerns but we promise, we are still here.”

In response to DatPiff’s rumor cleanup tweet, one Twitter user posted, “Ok, phew. Because the heartbreak I was about to feel is very real.” Someone else chimed in, “Man ya’ll can’t be scaring us like that. I thought it was a wrap.” While a third tweeter expressed, “Please keep the streaming available don’t do that to a whole culture and era.”

On YouTube, DatPiff has over 1.6 billion views and 2.29 million followers. The verified page’s most celebrated videos feature YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Boosie Badazz, Nicki Minaj, Moneybagg Yo, and NLE Choppa.

The legendary mixtape run of Lil Wayne is strongly related to DatPiff. For instance, in 2013 the portal provided early access to the DJ Drama-hosted Dedication 5 from the Young Money mogul. No Ceilings 3, one of Lil Wayne’s other releases from 2020, was also released on the app.

Rapper Meek Mill, who was supported by Maybach Music Group, also released Dreamchasers 2 on DatPiff in 2012. According to reports, 2.5 million fans downloaded Dreamchasers 2 in a single day. At the time, the website briefly crashed.
