Comedic horror film The Blackening’s official trailer has arrived!
The Blackening centers around a group of Black friends who reunite for a Juneteenth weekend getaway, only to find themselves trapped in a remote cabin with a twisted killer. Forced to play by his rules, the friends soon realize this is not the trip that they had envisioned.
Directed by Tim Story (Ride Along, Think Like A Man, Barbershop) and screenplay and screen story by Tracy Oliver (Girls Trip, Harlem) & Dewayne Perkins (The Amber Ruffin Show, Brooklyn Nine-Nine), The Blackening skewers genre tropes and poses the sardonic question: if the entire cast of a horror movie is Black, who dies first?!
The preview of The Blackening pokes fun at the classic trope by making the characters choose who the Blackest friend is so they can be killed first. It also highlights the idea that Black characters are always the smartest ones in horror movies. They’re the ones who know not to trust that creepy white guy with a mysterious past, but no one else listens and they end up dead.
Stars for the film include Grace Byers, Dewayne Perkins, Sinqua Walls, Jay Pharoah, and Yvonne Orji. The Blackening hits theaters on June 16.
