Jason Derulo Sued For Sexual Harassment By Singer, Emaza Gibson

Emaza Gibson has taken matters into the hands of the law after Jason Derulo allegedly sexually harassed and dropped her from his label for refusing his sexual advances.

The complaint was filed by Gibson on Thursday in The Los Angeles County Superior Court, and the female singer is seeking unpaid wages, loss of earnings, deferred compensation, and other employment benefits and damages for emotional distress.

The Lawsuit Claims

Gibson’s lawsuit accuses Derulo, his imprint, and Atlantic Records of sexual harassment, retaliation, breach of contract, a failure to remedy workplace harassment, and violation of California’s civil rights act.

According to her, there was an “explicit demand for sex-in-exchange-for-success” by Derulo. She claims that he continually pressured her to drink and have sex with him.

The lawsuit is quite detailed, it mentions Derulo saying that Gibson would “be required to partake in ‘goat skin and fish scales,’ if she wanted to be successful in the business.

Goat skin and fish scales – A Haitian reference that means conducting sex rituals, sacrificing a goat, goat blood, and doing cocaine.

This request by Derulo according to the suit was such that “the manner and timing of such a statement meant that Derulo was demanding sexual acts from [Gibson] in order for Derulo to fulfill his role as her mentor, supervisor, and musical collaborator.”

Even though Gibson claimed she repeatedly refused Derulo’s advances and told him that she wasn’t a drinker, she says he would still try to coerce her into going to have drinks with him. Usually, after their “intentional” 9 pm to 2 am studio sessions while assuring her that an Uber would take her home.

In another incident recorded in the lawsuit, the R&B singer allegedly gave Gibson ridiculously large amounts of alcohol one time after she reluctantly agreed to go have drinks with him. After this incident, she was ultimately dropped from Future History as well as Atlantic Records which is in collaboration with Derulo’s label.

Gibson’s Cry

Gibson is apparently in distress and is pulling all stops to get justice for her alleged unjustified treatment. In an interview with NBC News Gibson says “I’m at this point in my life right now, it’s very heartbreaking, I have anxiety; I’m traumatized. I’ve dealt with inhumane work situations. … I’m at this point where I’m back to zero and I have nothing.”

Derulo’s Defense

Jason Derulo has also come out to defend himself. In an Instagram post some hours ago he said,
“I wouldn’t normally comment but these claims are completely false and hurtful, I stand against all forms of harassment and I remain supportive of anybody following their dreams.”

“I’ve always strived to live my life in a positively impactful way, and that’s why I sit here before you deeply offended, by these defamatory claims. God bless” he concluded.

Whose words are really the truth? Gibson’s or Derulo’s? We will leave that for the court to decide.
