Pennsylvania is known for its rich history and is home to many famous celebrities and entertainers like Will Smith, Taylor Swift, Meek Mill, Kevin Hart, and Bradley Cooper. Beyond its famous residents and history, the state offers the appeal of a wide range of attractions that draw 180 million tourists to its towns and cities year after year.

Below, you’ll find a collection of attractions to keep you entertained in Pennsylvania, whether you’re visiting for the first time or the hundredth. They’ll help you appreciate the state’s history (and the country’s) while adding fun and excitement to your visit.

Liberty Bell (Philadelphia, PA)

Although it originally hung in Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell is now housed in the Liberty Bell Center, a part of the Independence National Historic Park. The bell is a widely recognized symbol of freedom in the US. Its inscription, “proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof,” was used by slavery abolitionists in the early 1800s as a call to action. These abolitionists are also credited for coming up with the name “Liberty Bell.” It’s an iconic part of American history that many are drawn to, making it a worthwhile visit for history buffs and proud Americans.

Hershey (Derry Township, PA)

Dubbed the “Sweetest Place on Earth,” Hershey, well often thought of as a town of its own, is a part of Derry Township, Pennsylvania. And yes, if you’re wondering, it’s the same place where Hershey’s candy bars come from. But Hershey is more than just chocolate confections; it’s become an epicenter of entertainment and fun for all ages. Within the Hershey grounds, you’ll find an amusement park, a zoo, chocolate factory tours, live entertainment, and even a spa and golf course.

Musikfest (Bethlehem, PA)

Every year in Bethlehem, PA, a ten-day music festival unfolds that offers a vast selection of free shows alongside paid shows with huge headliners. This year, headliners include names like the Black Eyed Peas, Ludacris, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Shinedown. The festivities extend beyond the concerts, with interactive attractions, comedy shows, art activities, and historic town tours. The festival creates a hub of activity that draws people in.

Bube’s Brewery (Mount Joy, PA)

Bube’s Brewery in Mount Joy, PA, is a unique micro-brewery and hotel that’s been around since 1876. You can tour the historic brewery and walk through the site’s art gallery, but the biggest draw is an upscale, candle-lit dining room within the venue’s catacombs. The dining area is 43 feet below ground level and offers a hauntingly unique dining experience.

Carnegie Science Center (Philadelphia, PA)

The Carnegie Science Center is a place where you’ll find exciting exhibits that pique a wide range of interests and age groups. During the day, you’ll find laser shows, glimpses into space, an observatory, and even a cinema. After hours, you’ll discover a thriving nightlife scene with 21+ nights that take on daring science experiments and opportunities to play party games and dive deeper into your favorite topics (even if you don’t expect them to be science-related!).

The Rocky Statue (Philadelphia, PA)

Rocky Balboa may have been fictional, but his statue is undoubtedly real. It’s cast in bronze and sits on top of a concrete base at the bottom of the Philadelphia Museum of Art stairs, the same stairs Rocky climbs while training in the movie. The statue was a gift from none other than Sylvester Stallone, the actor who portrayed Rocky. The statue is a perfect spot for a photo-op with the beloved character.

Philadelphia Museum of Art (Philadelphia, PA)

Once you’ve gotten your photo with Rocky, you might want to ascend the stairs and visit the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The museum displays art from around the world, ranging from paintings and drawings to photographs and textiles, leaving no materiality behind. On Friday nights, you can even take in live music alongside locally produced drinks within the museum exhibits.

Eastern State Penitentiary (Philadelphia, PA)

Another Pennsylvania activity that’s haunting but still draws interest is the Eastern State Penitentiary. The penitentiary held criminals well-known in American history, like Al Capone. While the site isn’t underground like the candle-lit catacomb dining room of Bube’s Brewery, the many ruins and rumors surrounding it make it an eerie attraction.

Reading Terminal Market (Philadelphia, PA)

The Reading (pronounced ‘Redding’) Terminal Market is steeped in history, first opening its doors in 1893. It has managed to maintain a strong community presence to this day. You can peruse locally crafted goods, produce, prepared foods, plants, flowers, and much more from various vendors. If you’re a foodie looking for a new culinary obsession or a shopper with an appreciation for hand-crafted and artisan items, Reading Terminal Market is a must-see.

Harrah’s Philadelphia Casino & Racetrack (Philadelphia, PA)

Although Jackpot City has launched in the state , sometimes there’s nothing quite like the in-person experience of a casino. Harrah’s delivers fun and excitement with table games, slot machines, horse racing, delicious food, and live entertainment. You can enjoy a Vegas-like vibe amidst the history and scenery of Pennsylvania.

Duquesne Incline (Pittsburgh, PA)

The Duquesne Incline takes you along a 400-foot incline in a cable car up Mount Washington. You’ll be able to drink in beautiful panoramas of Pittsburgh, from its city lights to its natural vistas. Once you’ve reached the end of the line, there are restaurants overhanging the mountain’s edge and a museum to explore. Duquesne Incline is a breath-taking attraction well worth a visit.

The Amish House & Farm (Lancaster, PA)

A change of pace from this list and daily life is the opportunity to visit The Amish Farm and House in Lancaster. Regular tours show you the Amish way of life while maintaining respect for the residents. Beyond tours, there are plenty of seasonal activities (like Halloween and Christmas-related events) and unexpected things to do (like goat yoga).

Where to First?

With such a wide range of fun and exciting things to do in Pennsylvania, there’s one thing left to ask yourself, which place will you check out first?
