These Black celebrity skincare secrets are too good to be kept!

As summer approaches, many may be prepping for their “outside shenanigans” by firing up the grill, cueing the yard-party anthems, or dishing out a fresh deck of playing cards.

However, whether you’re choosing to live your life like it’s golden or training to become a certified homebody this year, hitting the streets (or the sheets) with healthy skin is vital.

Although key factors, it’s safe to say there’s more to self-care than drinking water and minding your business. Sometimes, it’s everything from serums to sleep.

Here Are Black Celebrity Skincare Secrets You Should Know

August Alsina

In 2017, R&B crooner August Alsina revealed that he had been suffering from a chronic liver disease. The revelation came three years after the now-31-year-old collapsed on stage, prompting him to prioritize his health.

Following his unveiling, Alsina has advocated for mental and physical well-being. In 2022, he launched a genderless skincare line called Encina Wellness.

“I really do believe that a lot of the healing starts with the skin because it is your body’s largest organ,” Alsina said.

His secret:

Alsina uses the Full Regime set from his collection, which includes the Begin Again Cleanser, 3-in-1 Super Serum, Infused Wellness Cream, and Stripped Exfoliator.

In the words of her massive hit, Lizzo’s skin always looks “good as h–!”

The pop songstress has been applauded for spreading self-love through her music, paving a lane for Black, plus-size women in entertainment.

However, Lizzo’s encouragement for loving yourself surpasses the body-positive movement. Her face card never declines.

Her secret:

Along with clean eating habits, in a 2019 New York Times article, she said that she grabs Evian Water Facial Spray when she wakes up. In 2022, Lizzo stated that satin pillowcases help her with occasional skin irritation.

However, she has reportedly implemented an array of products, including Sunday Riley, Glow Recipe Pineapple Vitamin C Serum and Banana Soufflé Moisture Cream, Rosense Gülsuyu Rose Water Face Toner, True Botanicals Clear Pure Radiance Oil, Deayoka Rose Quartz Gua Sha Tool, Dr. Barbara Sturm Eye Cream, and Peter Thomas Roth.

Whichever she’s sticking to, it’s working overtime!

The legendary Rowland was generous enough to expose on Instagram how she sustains her youthfulness.

Her secret:

Rowland’s start-to-finish process comprises Shani Darden Cleansing Serum, iS CLINICAL Cleansing Complex, TheraFace Pro (to wash face), The Things We Do High Frequency Wand, Shani Darden Retinal Reform, Dr. Nigma Serum No. 1, Shani Darden Hydration Peptide Cream, and Relevant Skin Eye Serum.

Omari Hardwick stole our hearts after his noteworthy portrayal of a cutthroat drug dealer named James “Ghost” St. Patrick in Starz’ celebrated POWER series.

However, while Hardwick’s on-screen abilities caught the eyes of several, a lot of us couldn’t help but notice his skin every episode.

And… yes… Hardwick’s God-given layers are magical with or without the editing/behind-the-scenes makeup.

His secret:

During a 2021 segment of GQ’s Grooming GODS, Hardwick joked, “Taking care of yourself is a big necessity. You gotta make sure that you keep yourself in proper condition to always be hollered at.”

At the time of the clip, Hardwick said he preferred lukewarm water and “three or four” spritzes of Thayers Witch Hazel in the morning.

He furthered by listing Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream with Sunscreen and Scotch Porter Beard Conditioner as well.

“[SPF] is really important for men of color,” he quoted. “Sometimes we think that the sun does not affect us.”

It’s pretty much a given that Auntie Mary shines on and off the stage and encourages her fans to do the same.

Blige isn’t afraid to be loud and proud about her pro-positivity, which has aided in her untouchable beauty.

Her secret:

In a 2021 Q&A with The Tamron Hall Show, when asked about her tips on anti-aging, she told the viewers, “Think as positive as you can about life because frowning and stressing, you know, weighs on the face. And facials… facials are really important.”

Blige also advised removing your makeup before bed, drinking a lot of water, and staying on top of your vitamin intake.

“Wash your face with whatever face cleanser you use, pat it try, and put on your moisturizer or oil,” the New Yorker expressed to POPSUGAR.

According to a 2024 interview with SELF, prayer and a light diet have also served as major keys for Blige.
