Following its premiere in 1989, Family Matters became a staple of American television. The show followed the lives of the Winslow family and their quirky neighbor, Steve Urkel. As the years have passed, fans often wonder where the cast members are now and what they have been up to since the show’s end. Here’s a look at the current lives and careers of the main cast of Family Matters.

 

Jaleel White (Steve Urkel)

Jaleel White, who played Steve Urkel, has had a diverse career since Family Matters. After the show, Jaleel went on to voice the character Sonic the Hedgehog in various animated series and continued to act in television and film, according to IMBd. He also appeared in The Big Show on Netflix and had a recurring role in Fresh Off the Boat. Recently, Jaleel launched his own cannabis brand, ItsPurpl, featuring products inspired by his Urkel character.

 

Darius McCrary (Eddie Winslow)

Darius McCrary, who played Eddie Winslow, has pursued a multifaceted career in entertainment. He has appeared in various television shows and films, including a recurring role on Star and a part in the movie Mississippi Requiem. Meanwhile, Darius’ life outside of entertainment has been a bit messy. In May, he appeared in an OnlyFans video with social media personality Sydney Starr – a few years after the pair were romantically linked (per Hot 97).

Reginald VelJohnson remains a familiar face in Hollywood. Since playing Carl Winslow, Reginald has continued to work steadily in television, with roles in shows like Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Girl Meets World. He also reprised his role as David Sutton in the Turner & Hooch TV series. His deep, comforting voice has made him a sought-after actor for voice work as well.

 

Jo Marie Payton (Harriette Winslow)

After leaving Family Matters, Jo Marie Payton had roles on Will & Grace, Moesha, and The Proud Family, where she voiced Suga Mama. Most recently, Jo was seen in the reboot of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder on Disney+. She also continues to perform in theater and participates in various charity projects.

 

Kellie Shanygne Williams (Laura Winslow)

Kellie Shanygne Williams took a step back from the limelight to focus on her family after playing Laura Winslow on Family Matters. Kellie is now a mother of two and has dedicated much of her time to raising her children and working on community-based projects. She occasionally makes appearances at fan conventions and remains active on Instagram, where she connects with fans and shares updates on her life.

Jaimee Foxworth played Steve Urkel’s neighbor for four seasons, before leaving the beloved sitcom. Judy then experienced a turbulent career path that included struggles with substance use. She later appeared on Celebrity Rehab in 2008 and committed to changing her life around. According to HuffPost, the actress decided to get clean after getting pregnant with the son she shares with Michael Shaw.

Following her time on Family Matters, Telma Hopkins has had a long and successful career in television and music. Telma continued acting in numerous TV series, including Half & Half, Are We There Yet?, and The Young and the Restless. She remains active in the entertainment industry and continues to perform as a singer with the group Tony Orlando and Dawn.
