Actor Zazie Beetz will not be reprising her role as Domino in the highly anticipated film Deadpool 3. The German-American actress, who won hearts playing the crime fighting mutant in Deadpool 2, has been noticeably absent from the promotional material for the third installment of the beloved franchise. Fans have been left wondering why the character will not be making an appearance alongside Ryan Reynolds’ in Deadpool this time around.

Zazie’s absence from Deadpool 3 has sparked considerable discussion among fans and critics alike. Her performance as Domino, a mutant with the superpower of manipulating luck, made her one of the standout figures in Deadpool 2. The chemistry between Zazie and Ryan added a vibrant energy to the film, leading many to expect her return in the sequel. Zazie previously gushed over her role as Domino, suggesting that she would happily return to the franchise.
“I am crossing my fingers, hoping that Domino will be a part of this and if not, that’s also all good,” she told ScreenRant in 2022. “But it’s just such a great crew, such a great team. I just love Deadpool. I love Domino so much. If it’s not this, maybe I’ll do my own Domino origins or something like that.”
Despite the anticipation, the actress confirmed in a 2023 interview with Decider that she would not be participating in Deadpool 3. “I’m actually not in Deadpool 3,” Zazie said. And while Zazie did not explain why her character was axed, several factors could have influenced this decision. One of the primary reasons could be the film’s narrative direction. Deadpool 3 is set to mark the character’s debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) after Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox.

Another possible reason for Zazie’s absence from Deadpool 3, could be due to scheduling conflicts. The German actress had been exceptionally busy with various projects, including her roles in the FX series ‘Atlanta’ – though that ended with season four back in 2022 – and other film commitments such as The Harder They Fall and Bullet Train. Balancing multiple high-profile projects can pose significant challenges, potentially making it difficult to commit. On June 12, Deadline announced that Zazie would be starring in the horror film, They Will Kill You.
Meanwhile, some Marvel fans are hanging on to hope that Zazie may reprise her role at some point. “I still think Deadpool 3 will miss having Domino,” one person tweeted. While another wrote, “Zazie Beetz will reportedly not be returning as Domino in Deadpool 3. I’m debating whether or not to boycott.”
Fans should know that Zazie also won’t be appearing in Deadpool & Wolverine, the next movie in the Marvel franchise, which releases in theaters nationally on July 26th.
