Brand new HBO series ‘Lanterns’ is here. “Lanterns’ expands on the James Gunn and Peter Safran rebooted DC Universe in the modern day. Lanterns premiered on August 16, 2026, and will run for eight episodes through October 4th. It is part of the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
The origin story of Green Lantern is centered on Hal Jordan and John Stewart. The co-chair and CEO of DC Studios, James Gunn explained that ‘Lanterns’ is a good mystery about Hal Jordan and John Stewart discovering an ancient horror on Earth that connects into the broader DCU storyline. He promised that ‘Lanterns’ can change how audiences view different sides of the universe while having more franchises to come.
The official trailer for ‘Lanterns’ shows Hal Jordan and John Stewart are investigating an alien crazy case that shows the dark story with other enemies called Manhunters. While fear and doubt can make the partnership tense that makes the case more harder to solve. These cases force both partners to trust each other or fail completely, which makes them an important layer of safety in the world.
The cast of Lanterns includes Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan, Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, and Kelly Macdonald as Sheriff Kerry Kane, Garret Dillahunt as William Macon, and Jason Ritter. Other cast members include Nathan Fillion, Laura Linney, and Ulrich Thomsen.
