R&B star Chris Brown is rejecting the Texas Honor after the rep, Venton Jones, publicly apologised for honoring the artist following public backlash.
Grammy-winning artist Chris Brown received a Texas honor, an official State of Texas legislative recognition, but the backlash has caused a dispute on social media. The event took place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, and Usher was also given a recognition award.
The excited artist shared now-deleted photos of the award presented by a Congresswoman, Jasmine Crockett. However, this Texas honor did not sit well with many people, as Brown’s past from 2009 resurfaced. Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett was criticised and faced backlash for associating with the singer.
Rep Venton Jones came out on Tuesday to address the backlash following Chris Brown’s Texas honor and apologised to domestic violence victims. He was asked in an interview with Don Lemon if the Texas honor given to Brown was a good or bad idea.
Rep Venton Jones confessed it was not intended to encourage domestic violence. He apologised to women, Black women, and DV victims if he resurfaced their traumas.
Chris Brown took to Instagram to respond and rant following the Rep’s apology, also adding that he rejects the Texas honor. He said, “Funny thing is… YALL CAME TO ME WITH. THIS ! NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND”
He continued, “I was minding my damn business. My shows in Dallas were already sold out. I ain’t ask to be honored because I knew some shit like this would happen and ©ventonjonest immediately started tap dancing and apologizing because he didn’t wanna lose voters and support.”
He concluded by asking them to leave him alone while he focuses on his fans. He added, “I have a great idea.. How about yall leave me the fuck alone and let me focus on the fans that spent their money to actually see and support me.”
