D4vd has yet to be convicted after being arrested as the prime suspect in the Celeste Rivas Hernandez murder. While the parents of Celeste are out seeking justice for their beloved daughter, they are in support of D4vd receiving the death penalty as punishment for the crime.
This case has been ongoing, with authorities scrutinising and analysing evidence in the Celeste Rivas murder. In addition, his preliminary hearing was initially scheduled to start on April 29, 2026. However, it was postponed and began on May 26, 2026.
Will D4vd Face the Death Penalty? Celeste Rivas’ Family in Support
1. Is D4vd currently facing the death penalty?
The artist, David Anthony Burke, has been the prime suspect after being arrested in April, while the case has lingered on for months following a proper investigation.
The death penalty is a sentence given to a convicted person, where he/she would be sentenced to death or life imprisonment without parole. In California, where d4vd is being charged, a death sentence is signed by the governor.
The last time a death sentence was carried out in Los Angeles County was over 20 years ago, in 2006. Clarence Ray Allen was convicted of triple murder and executed by lethal injection. No case of death sentence was issued between 2020 to 2025. During that time, a policy was passed that banned prosecutors from seeking the death penalty. However, the attorney, Hochman, is seeking the capital punishment, aka death penalty.
2. Why does Celeste Rivas’ family support the death penalty?
While the family of Celeste Rivas continues to miss her and mourn her on what would have been her 16th birthday if she had been alive, her murderer is still out there. Justice is yet not served.
Her parents mentioned that they want justice and her murder locked away. In a report, they said, “If the death penalty were activated, it would be perfect for this kind of human being.” Her family are hoping justice is served. Further sharing, “That’s not in our hands, but rather in God’s, and the California justice system.”
3. What charges is D4vd facing?
The charges against the artist still include first-degree murder, a well-thought-out crime which was premeditated, planned, and then acted upon.
A few days ago, his lawyers dropped the case as his representative, while the artist pleaded not guilty during his hearing.
4. What happens next in D4vd’s case?
D4vd is being charged in LA County, California. The prosecution is being headed by DA Nathan Hochman. The artist has been held without bail at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility since April. He is currently being represented by a public defender.
