2 Guns gets off to a quick start, jumping right into the action in this high octane film. The Baltasar Kormákur directed film puts together the somewhat odd pairing of Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg in a bromance of two officers of different forces, with no choice but to pair up in order to get themselves out of a very sticky situation. Paula Patton, Bill Paxton and James Marsden also star in the film, though this is really just the Washington and Wahlberg show.

Washington finds himself in a somewhat more familiar role following his performance in the Oscar nominated role in last year’s Flight. Once again playing an officer, Washington plays DEA agent Robert Trench. He’s on a mission to make a big drug bust for a case he’s been undercover on for 3 years and he anticipates taking down his street associate, Michael Stigman. Unbeknownst to him, Stigman is a U.S. Naval Officer (NCIS). Stigman doesn’t know Trench is undercover either, but they quickly find out about each other after they make their bust and realize nothing has gone according to plan.

The rest of the film finds the pair sorting through the facts and deciphering between what’s true and what’s false. Trench and Stigman develop a camaraderie along the way and they try to make it out alive. There’s enough action to keep the men in the theater entertained, and between Mark and Denzel, women who aren’t in it for the action will be just fine with the eye candy.

The film is based off a comic book of the same name and I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a sequel that comes from this.
