August Alsina Is Back With New Song + Announces Forthcoming Album, Drugs

After his short stint away from the music scene, August Alsina has dropped the title track, “Drugs”, from his forthcoming album—and, let’s just say, the internet went completely ballistic. A few months back, Alsina indicated that some new things were definitely in the works and on the way. Building anticipation, the fans were anxiously awaiting the singer’s musical return. However, it seems that the wait is no longer with the new August Alsina Drugs revelation.

This past weekend, Alsina went on Instagram live, hinting to it being a very ‘special day’. Later in the evening, he announced a huge surprise for #AlsinaNation, revealing that his new song, “Drugs”, was officially up for listen. In less than six hours, the song earned a spot on iTunes’ R&B/Soul Top 10 chart.

Sooooo fucking excited to finally be able to release new music!!!! #Drugs is out now on ITunes & Spotify. Thank you all for being so patient with me on my journey… Im so proud to share all of the newness with yal & spread vibrations of love through the music. “I can’t get enoughhhhhhhhhh of your drugs”

Though he’s mainly known for conveying raw and uncut stories from his troubled past, through his music, “Drugs” shows a more vulnerable and loving side of Alsina, as he sings about his undying addiction to a special lady, over a sultry beat.

“I got you on my mind. Oh, I got you on my mind. You’re not here and I can’t sleep. I got you on my mind, and I can’t seem to find you, nowhere. Baby, you got me patrollin’. ’Cause you been on the run for discomfort. Girl, don’t hide it. I’m just tryna to this dirty laundry; I got a few towels to throw in. Just lick my blunt, when I roll it.” He sings.

The song smoothly continues, giving off a melodic vibe, as Alsina harmonizes and confesses his inevitable love and admiration for the lady who seems to have his head gone. Another job well done, might we add.

Since the release of his sophomore album, This Thing Called Life, back in late 2015, and his latest participation in DJ Khaled’s “Do You Mind” performance—at the AMAs, the singer has been laying low. We’d like to say that Alsina’s time out of the limelight was surely put to great use. The new music is proof!

“Today is a beautiful day, for me, ’cause I’m finally about to drop new music. I just dropped my new song; it’s the title track to my album. It’s called ‘Drugs’.” Alsina elaborated, through a video, he posted to Instagram.

He then went on to explain the meaning behind his project. “I realized how addicted to certain ways of living life, I was. Addicted to chaos, drama, confusion. Lately, for me, it’s been about breaking the cycle and creating a new normal. That new normal is love. I have a newfound addiction. Through love and beautiful women, I’ve been able to find myself, reach higher places within myself.”
