Karen Civil Granted Key To The City of Elizabeth, New Jersey As Part of Live Civil Day
Karen Civil is a digital media maven and a marketing mogul who has literally built her own empire from the bottom up. An entrepreneur, an author, a motivational speaker, and a philanthropist, Civil is the epitome of a modern-day girl boss. However, though the 32-year-old has seen many accolades within her career, she never forgets where it all started. Recently, Civil returned to her hometown of Elizabeth, New Jersey to host her first ever Live Civil Basketball Camp, as a part of Live Civil Day.
In efforts to encourage, uplift, and inspire, Live Civil Day was started to promote the youth to stay fit, active, and motivated. It serves as a tool to deliver the importance of health and wellness while bringing the community together for a positive cause.
Civil joined forces with Adidas and set out to provide Elizabeth’s youth with an enjoyable community basketball tournament and Live Civil Day experience. She ensured just that when she brought out San Antonio Spurs player, Kyle Anderson, who
is also a fellow Jerseyan. During Anderson’s visit, he gave insight to the youth on being an NBA athlete and how much of an honor it was to be doing something constructive for the city of Elizabeth.
“Growing up, my dad took me to a lot of events, and I always enjoyed them. So, giving back and supporting community events now is only right. It’s extra special when it’s the home state, too.” Anderson expressed.
Three basketball teams received brand new custom uniforms by Adidas, gifting them with t-shirts, sneakers, book bags, and Beats By Dre, Power Beats. Everyone else who attended was also given Adidas book bags and sack packs, t-shirts, Python Luxury shades, and a total of ten bicycles. To top the festivities, five contenders were chosen to participate in a half court shoot contest. The winner was awarded a Cleveland Cavaliers jersey, personally signed by Kyrie Irving, himself.
“Live Civil Day represents community, positivity, encouragement, health, and wellness. As an Elizabeth native, I believe it is my duty to give back to my community. Our youth is our future, and it truly takes a village to raise a child,” Civil stated. “I want children to know that they can create the life they dream of, despite the odds that are against them,”
It is amazing to see someone of Karen Civil’s caliber who cares enough to use her platform as a way to unify today’s generation. It’s not often that you see people like Civil who still believes in the power of taking action and striving to make a change as a collective. There are children out there who have dreams so big, but their hope is so small. We’d like to think that, after Live Civil Day, those children definitely gained a little more hope.
During the tournament, Civil was granted the key to the city of Elizabeth, New Jersey, by Patrica Perkins-Auguste, Councilwoman At-Large, making her the third recipient of a key to the city.
“I, on behalf of the city of Elizabeth, truly thank Karen for giving back to our residents. Miss. Civil, a native of Elizabeth, is joined together with many sponsors to ensure that our youth continue to thrive during the summer season,” Councilwoman Auguste boasts, recognizing Civil for her acts of good work done within the community.
“Karen’s belief in empowering communities across the country is welcomed home, and she is paying it forward to the Elizabeth community that assisted in her success.”
Civil later paid a visit to her alma mater, Elizabeth High School, on June 23rd, and gave a powerful commencement speech.
It’s people like Karen Civil who lets you know that giving up is never an option. Going forward is.
Congratulations to Karen Civil on receiving the key to the city. Well-deserved!
